Upton Park Station opened in 1877 and began serving what would become the District line in 1902.
The station sits close to the Boleyn Ground, the home of West Ham United Football Club, and the quirky and diverse Queens Road Market is across the road.
The station name appears in the punning euphemism for a near crazy person; they are said to be ‘Upton Park’ – that is, two stops short of Barking (as in ‘barking mad’).
