Holborn Station opened in December 1906 by the Great Northern, Piccadilly and Brompton Railway (GNP & BR), now the Piccadilly line. It was modernised in the early 1930s by designer Charles Holden.

The escalators in the station are the second highest in the London Underground.

Two trains crashed at Holborn Station in 1980. No serious injuries were sustained, and even the driver of the rear train only had minor injuries when pulled from his cab.

Two music videos ‘New Song’ by Howard Jones, and ‘Turn Back Time’ by Aqua featured clips filmed on the platforms of Holborn. In the 1996 film Secrets & Lies two characters arrange a rendezvous in the station.

Attractions nearby include the British Museum, The London Transport Museum, Sir John Soane’s Museum and the Royal Courts of Justice.
