The station was opened by the Great Eastern Railway in 1903. Its ticket office was reconstructed in 1948 following destruction of the original building by a German V1 ‘Doodlebug’ in July 1944.

¬†Grange Hill is one of two Tube stations that serves the town of Chigwell, which Charles Dickens described as “the greatest place in the world … Such a delicious old inn opposite the church … such beautiful forest scenery … such an out of the way rural place!”

Nowadays days, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club has its training facilities in the area.
