Temple station was opened in May 1870 as ‘The Temple’. It is named after the neighbouring Temple Church, and the Inner and Middle Temple, two of the four Inns of Court in London, the professional associations for barristers in England and Wales.
In the James Bond release Skyfall (2012), agent Bond is seen on the District line tube at this station. In reality, a disused platform at another station was used to film.
Other significant sites nearby are the Royal Courts of Justice and Kings College London. Enjoy an afternoon stroll across Waterloo Bridge or visit Somerset House, originally a Tudor palace, to see paintings by artists like Matisse, Manet and Modigliani.
