Rayners Lane opened in 1906 and was named after a local farmer called Daniel Rayner. The station was rebuilt in 1936 to a design by Charles Holden.
In the local area is a listed Art Deco cinema, with a curved facade resembling an elephant’s trunk, now used as a Zoroastrian centre – the only official temple for this ancient Iranian religion in the UK.
