Bond Street station first opened on 24 September 1900. Almost ten years later, Harry Selfridge proposed a subway link directly into the Selfridges store. He further asked for the station to be renamed ‘Selfridges’; both requests were declined.
Bond Street has been seen as the luxury shopping street of London since the mid-18th century. In 2010, it was recorded as Europe’s most expensive retail location.
Nearby to Bond Street station is Sotheby’s famous auction house.
