Belsize Park 179 / 270

This Grade II-listed station, opened in 1907, was designed by Leslie Green and features his familiar facade of ox-blood tiles, with four round arched windows. The station’s name was adapted from the Old French bel asis, which means ‘beautifully situated’.

Belsize Park is one of eight London Underground stations that have deep-level World War II air-raid shelters underneath them, the entrance of which can still be seen from the street.

Walk to Primrose Hill Park for fantastic views of central London. Also near to the station is 2 Willow Road, a ground-breaking modernist house designed by architect Ernö Goldfinger in 1939 for his family. Now owned by the National Trust, it still contains their impressive collection of modern art, intriguing personal possessions and innovative furniture.
