Richmond station serves as one of the westerly terminals for both the District line and London Overground.

The town of Richmond formed when Henry VII built Richmond Palace. Once the king’s royal hunting ground, today Richmond Park is a public space filled with flora and fauna, including an abundance of red and fallow deer.

Near to the station is Richmond Hill, the view from which is of outstanding beauty. It has been captured by many artists, including JMW Turner (1775–1851), and is the only view in England to be protected under parliamentary law.
