The station opened on 4 July 1905 as a halt, to be rebuilt as a station in the 1970s.
Although no major historical events seem to have taken place in Ickenham, settlements dating back to the Roman occupation of Britain have been discovered during archaeological surveys. The area also appears in the Domesday Book.
