High Barnet Tube station is the terminus of the High Barnet branch of the Northern line.  The station architecture retains much of its original Victorian character.

Barnet Hill is thought to be the hill mentioned in the nursery rhyme ‘The Grand Old Duke of York’. High Barnet was the site of the Battle of Barnet in 1471 where Yorkist troops killed the rebellious ‘Kingmaker’ Richard Neville, Earl of Warwick. It’s also said that King Henry VIII used to go hunting in nearby Hadley Woods.

Barnet Market, open every Wednesday and Saturday, has been running on the same site for hundreds of years.

Visit the church just up the road from the station. The keyhole of the main door is said to be the same height above sea level as the cross atop the dome of St Paul’s Cathedral.
