The north-eastern terminus of the Central line, Epping saw a growth in passengers to an average of 6,200 a day after the closure of nearby stations North Weald, Blake Hall and Ongar in the mid-1990s.
The longest possible journey on the Underground without changing trains is the Central line route between West Ruislip and Epping at 34.1 miles.
Epping holds a famous weekly market every Monday that dates back to 1253. It is the starting point for the Essex Way – a long-distance path between Epping and Harwich – and is home to the first ever Clinton Cards shop, which opened in 1968.
