I often photograph transport systems, but the Underground is my first love. Underground networks, often envisioned as an enchanted, continuous worldwide pipeline, have figured in numerous tales over the centuries. My fascination traces from childhood in New York City, whose system is an early example of subterranean transport, but not the oldest. That distinction belongs to the Tube, which has moved and harboured people in peace and war. I am over joyed to contribute to its celebration at 150. My photograph offers a vision of the congestion headaches we can avoid by going underground.
