Spectre

Simon Periton
2016

Spectre by Simon Periton embedded into the exterior glazing of the Elizabeth line station at Farringdon features an intricate pattern reflecting the elaborate Victorian metalwork of the historic Smithfield Market directly opposite.

Created as a homage to the artisanal and commercial heritage of the area, the transparent artwork allows passengers to see through to the coffered ceiling within – itself an echo of the Brutalist architecture of the nearby Barbican.

Commissioned in 2016 as part of The Crossrail Art Foundation’s public art programme for the Elizabeth line with the support of the Sadie Coles HQ.
