Artist Bob and Roberta Smith was commissioned by Art on the Underground, on behalf of Mike Brown, Managing Director of London Underground and London Rail to produce a Christmas card to send to his staff.
Harry Beck’s iconic Tube map provides the inspiration for Smith’s playful, festive artwork where interchanges appear as snowflakes. The words on the card are rendered in the colours of the various lines of the Underground and Overground.
“Once you put those colours together you do get a very particular vibe, so it’s great to make a Christmas card out them,” said Bob and Roberta Smith. “I have been a fan of the Tube since childhood, so I was absolutely delighted to do this.”
Sales of the cards supports the work of charity Railway Children. A pack of six costs £4.25 and is available online at www.railwaychildren.org.uk/shop or the London Transport Museum shop in Covent Garden
