Art on the Underground teams up with Nower Hill High school to offer Tube customers new artwork at North Harrow station

A new poster exhibition with artwork by students from Nower Hill High School is on display at North Harrow station. Tube customers can now enjoy new paintings, drawings and photography as they pass through the station. The exhibition is a collaboration between Art on the Underground and Nower Hill High School. Art on the Underground invited the students to submit images that could represent the school. These artworks are being shown alongside works by professional artists made for our 100 Roundels project

This display features work by students studying Fine Art at GCSE and A’ Level and Photography at A’ Level at Nower Hill High School. It is presented alongside works by international artists commissioned by Art on the Underground to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the roundel in 2008 – the symbol for London Underground and London’s transport system. 100 contemporary artists were commissioned to make new works that celebrate this design icon.

Cathy Haynes, Curator for Art on the Underground, said: “We hope this exhibition by Nower Hill students will add enjoyment and interest to customers’ journeys. It has been great to give Nower Hill High School an opportunity to celebrate their students’ achievements and they have made some great artwork for our Tube station.”

Howard Freed, Head teacher for Nower Hill High school, said: “A wonderful opportunity both for our students’ work to be on display and for the public to see the quality of art in our school.”

Harry Massingham, 17, a student at Nower Hill High school, said: “Hopefully putting up people’s artwork will brighten up those Monday morning commutes. I feel honoured that my art is being displayed alongside other brilliant artwork for hundreds of commuters to see.”
