Avalanche

Simon Periton
2016

Avalanche by Simon Periton embedded in the interior glazing of the western ticket hall of the Elizabeth line station at Farringdon is a frieze featuring large diamonds – a giant piece of tracery. The lines and facets of the gemstones complement the geometry of the ticket hall, appearing to tumble down and around the escalators.

The artwork has been digitally printed onto the glass panels that line the walls, and was created as a homage to the goldsmiths, jewellers and ironsmiths of nearby Hatton Garden.

Commissioned in 2016 as part of The Crossrail Art Foundation’s public art programme for the Elizabeth line with the support of the Sadie Coles HQ.
