A Sunday Afternoon in Whitechapel

Chantal Joffe
2018

The artwork titled ‘A Sunday Afternoon in Whitechapel’ spans the platforms of the Elizabeth line station at Whitechapel seeks to reflect the local east London neighbourhood. The artist, Chantal Joffe, made the work as an evocation of Sunday afternoons spent in the area.

The works were initially made as small-scale paper collages that were subsequently rendered in laser-cut aluminium.

Commissioned in 2017 as part of The Crossrail Art Foundation’s public art programme for the Elizabeth line with the support of the Whitechapel Gallery.
