Mona Hatoum

Mona Hatoum’s diverse poetic and political oeuvre is realised in a diverse and often unconventional range of media, including installations, sculpture, video, photography and works on paper.

The map is recurring motif or theme; either through direct reference to existing maps from the political to the topographical, or via invented maps and globes made from a variety of materials from steel to carpet, hair, marbles and soap. The consistent return to the map at the centre of these diverse works anchors her references to myriad issues, from the creation of identity through political borders to the condition of the globe itself – the home of humanity.
