Platform for Art has commissioned ten posters inspired by ten decades of fashion and design on the Bakerloo line 1906–2006 as part of the wider Bakerloo Centenary celebrations. The project has been set up in partnership with the London College of Fashion, which is also celebrating its centennial year. The posters celebrate the Bakerloo line’s long history of being a fast and effective way to carry customers to the heart of London’s shopping, entertainment and cultural district. Starting March 2006 one poster per month will be presented in 15 stations on the Bakerloo line (Kilburn Park to Elephant and Castle Underground stations).
London College of Fashion and Platform for Art have collaborated to produce bespoke images for the posters. Under the guidance of Course Director, Edward Barber, six shoot teams were selected from the BA and MA Fashion Photography courses to produce the 10 images. These images have been thematically linked to the history and operation of the underground system, as well as making reference to specific stations and iconic London landmarks. The first poster will be released on 31 March 2006.
Free limited-edition postcards featuring interesting facts about the Bakerloo line’s history will be handed out by London Underground staff from 10 March.
The first poster, x ten, is by Louise Adolphsen and Sarah Brittain Edwards. x ten is a theatrical composition of ten models on a platform at Regent’s Park Underground station and commemorates fashion trends from the past 100 years.
London College of Fashion, which also celebrates its centenary this year, has an international reputation as a leading provider of fashion education, research and consultancy.
