Bermondsey opened in 1999 as part of the Jubilee line extension. The architecture of the station, by Ian Ritchie, allows natural light to fill the escalator box and filter down to platform level. The blue glass seats on the platforms have been described by the architect as ‘jewellery’ for the station.
