Perivale

Perivale was designed in 1938, but the station didn’t open until 30 June 1947, due to World War II, and a large wing and a tower proposed in the design were never constructed.

Within walking distance of the Tube station is the Hoover Building, a fine example of Art Deco architecture, featuring blunt lines, curved windows and splashes of bold primary colours. During the war the building, camouflaged and featuring a lookout post on its roof, was used 24 hours a day as a factory to create military electrical equipment. In 1992, it was bought by Tesco.

Carole Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge’s mother, is a notable past resident of Perivale.
